Minnesota Native Plant Garden

Dear Helping America’s Heroes,

The materials provided by you have impacted my student’s lives in many ways. When they first saw the planting materials, they were thrilled. They really want to contribute to our school in a positive way, and with these materials they will be able to do that.

The first thing that we did when receiving the materials is go out to the old, warn out garden and begin weeding and taking care of the plants that are already there. Other students mapped out the garden and began planning out where our new plants can go. They are taking ownership over this garden and it couldn’t have been done without the help of you all.

I am excited to see this project come to a fantastic finish in the Spring. The students will continue to work on the garden and prepare it for the new items going in when it warms up. It is something that they, and others at the school can enjoy for many years to come.

With gratitude,
Ms. Creighton

My students need gardening gloves, tools, and a wagon to carry all of the gardening supplies. So that they are able to create a beautiful Minnesota native plant garden.

My Students

I teach kindergarten all the way through grade 5. The students I teach come from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. They are inquisitive, active, and love to engage in new experiences. They are learning life skills like how to plan a project and see it through to the end. Our students are especially excited when they are presented with hands-on learning opportunities.

We would like to provide our students with more hands-on, problem solving opportunities in the classroom that they don’t get outside of school.

Every child in the school will be able to benefit from this project.

My Project

I have an amazing school of students that are itching for some outdoor education. I would like to provide my students with a small Minnesota native plant garden near the playground of the school. We are lucky enough to have a bench and a small area that we are able to expand into a learning environment for the kids.

Creating a Minnesota native plant garden within the playground area will give students an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature while at school.

The students will also be using this garden as a learning experience. They will plan the garden, research plants, and create the garden. After the garden is in full swing, all of the students at the school will be able to use the garden to extend their science education and bring the classroom outdoors!

UPDATE

Good news: Project fully funded!

Dear Hometown Hero Project,

Thank you so much for your amazing donations. My students will be able to create and maintain a beautiful garden for everyone at the school to enjoy. I can’t wait to get started on the Minnesota Native Plant garden. There is so much learning to do in a garden.

With gratitude,
Ms. Creighton
